Take a look back at a time when BlackBerry reigned supreme, thanks to Spy Phone Review! 2006 surely was a good year for BlackBerry.

Spy Phone Review takes a look at BlackBerry

Having been available for many years, the sophistication and reliability of the product is impressive and as yet, there is no other company that offers a solution for call interception or spy calls.

Many people think of BlackBerry’s as corporate smartphones, but according to Research in Motion (RIM) the makers of BlackBerry, 70% of sales are to people that buy them for personal use. In February, 2009 they hit the major milestone of selling their 50 millionth unit.

That’s a lot of phones! You probably know someone that has one; and if you want to take a peek at their communications, you’ll need to look to FlexiSPY first. Neo Call does not provide BlackBerry spy phone software.

FlexiSPY supports both GSM and CDMA telecom networks which means that it works on Verizon, T-mobile and Sprint networks. They offer three versions of their BlackBerry spy phone software, FlexiSPY LIGHT, FlexiSPY PRO and the FlexiSpy Pro-X

FlexiSPY BlackBerry LIGHT Features

The PRO model offers all the features above, and adds the following:

FlexiSPY BlackBerry PRO Features

FlexiSpy Blackberry Pro-X Features

How it works

The principle of operation is typical of GPRS based systems. Any Phone Call, SMS, Email or GPS that happens on the device, will trigger the FlexiSPY software to record the data as an event. These events are then stored locally until its time to send it to the web account where it can be viewed and manipulated.

The trigger for delivery is the number of events ( 1 – 100 events) or a time period ( 1 – 24 hours) . When either of these thresholds is reached, FlexiSPY delivers all the events to the Web account using an internet connection. This approach to delivery is interesting as it allows a lot of flexibility in how often a network connection is used. At one extreme, it is possible to set the software to deliver once every 24 hours or when 100 events are reached. This is a good setting for those situations where information is not time critical, and the cost incurred will be negligible. At the other extreme, where the number of events is set to one, a real time reporting system is possible, but at the expense of frequent network connections. This may be suitable for data plans which are unmetered.#

The GPS ( FlexiSPY PRO only) feature is similarly configurable, allowing the software to check device location from 5 mins to one hour.

Flexispy Pro-X allows even greater polling frequency between 10 seconds to every couple of hours with more time slots in between.

Web Account

The web account is a secure private account that you are given with your subscription. Logging in allows you to see all your data, filtered by event type. Each event is clickable, and a detailed view is opened, where you can see the time, date, direction, and content of the event. For SMS, and Call Records, not only do you see the content and source number, but if the number is in the address book, this will also be shown.

If the event is a GPS location, there is a link to a map available. Here is where you can see the location on a map for an individual GPS event.

A really neat feature is the GPS Tracking tab. This provides the ability to select a date range for GPS events, and then see an animation of the movement from earliest to latest. In this way, you can see the movement. These is also a Real Time Tracking mode. Here, the web pages refresh at 1 min intervals, and if the device has sent new GPS data, you will see the movement on the map.

The Search Tab provides a very powerful search facility. This allows you to specify a keyword of interest, and then to search for this keyword across a date range, qualified by event type and direction. Results are optionally available to download as a PDF, XML or RTF document.

The Profile tab lets you see what devices you have, and when it last connected. This section also provides an understated, yet extremely useful feature called Email Relay. This is the ability to specify an email address that will immediately receive the Blackberry spy phone event data as it comes in. You don’t need to keep logging into the web account, and you can receive all data into your email, returning to the web account only for detailed searches, or GPS visualization.

Spy Calls

The PRO and Pro-X versions of the software offer the ability to use your Blackberry as a bug. You first specify a number from which you can make calls to the target device and then this device will then saliently answer the call, letting you listen to the surroundings. You could use this to bug a meeting room, listen to a baby sitter, or perhaps your cheating lover’s lovemaking.

A SIM Change notification is also provided. If the SIM card is changed in the Blackberry, FlexiSPY will send a SMS to a specified number. This means that you now have the new number and can continue to make spy calls to the new number as usual.

Call Intercept

Pro-X features ‘Call Intercept’ this feature allows you to actively monitor live voice calls and listen in as the conversation ensues. Pro-X sends the phone number connected to the target and allows you to call in and listen to the conversation. The monitor’s phone is patched in secretively by using the conference call feature and allows you to speak out if you choose. Otherwise mute the monitor phone and the call remains completely silent.

Emails

FlexiSPY will capture email from all email accounts, and send to the web account. In my tests, I found that attachments were not sent, and that there were occasionally problems with some HTML emails.

SIM Change

Pro-X features a SIM card notification which alerts you if the SIM card is changed, The new number is sent to the monitor as well as the web account and allows the monitor to keep on tracking the target. Even if the SIM card is changed Flexispy Pro-X still remains fully functional.

Device Changes

People change devices all the time so the ability to easily change the software can be a godsend. In my testing for example, I used a Curve, Bold and Storm. It was a simple matter of deactivating the license key from one device and using it on another with no problems. I found myself really impressed with this, and could see how useful it could be. This facility is available during the 12 month subscription, but is restricted to the platform, meaning that you can only move to another blackberry.

Installation and Remote Control

There are two ways to install FlexiSPY spy phone for Blackberry. One is directly from the internet. This starts a download which takes a few seconds to complete and the installation starts automatically. The installation requires answering a couple of questions regarding the location and to accept the disclaimer. You also need to set certain permissions in order to let the software operate correctly. If you do not, it won’t work correctly.

The other method is using the Blackberry device manager. This is a more complex installation requiring a PC and a USB cable. I was advised by FlexiSPY support that this was only recommended for very advanced users, and offered extreme stealth for use in mission critical situations.

Regardless of the installation, you have to enter a default code which brings up a request for an activation key. Entering this key causes the software to activate, and then you can set a number of options, including the timer thresholds, the spy call numbers and the SMS command text.

Pro-X allows you to change the GPS polling frequency and report times as well.

After you activate, the secret control panel can only be brought up using the activation code. This is a great security feature, as every installation is unique, and there is no way to detect the software without knowing this key. If you deactivate the product ( to move to another device for example), the key to open the secret control panel returns to the default key, so you must make sure that you also remove the software after you do this.

Blackberry Spy Phone Remote Control

This is something that I feel is extremely important. In real use, you rarely get a chance to get a hold of the device, so you need to be able to make changes to settings and debug problems without raising suspicion. A robust remote control system lets you do this.

The Blackberry Spy Phone uses the concept of SMS commands to control the software. Unlike the other FlexiSPY products that I have tested, these commands are not invisible, and are seen by the user, so they must be used with extreme care. For every command available, you specify a sequence of words that can be contained anywhere in an SMS. When an SMS is received with this sequence anywhere in the string, FlexiSPY will take action.

These are set as part of the installation using the secret control panel. For example, you can set keywords to stop/start, select events to capture, set timers, request diagnostics and so on. The whole setup is very impressive, and clearly, a lot of thought and effort has gone into this. If this was an invisible system, like all their other spy phone products, it would really be something.

Conclusion

To my knowledge, FlexiSPY offers the most feature rich mobile spy tools for Blackberry. It’s a very complete package, with a lot of extremely useful features. The manuals provided are very detailed, but still easy to follow, with screen shots of every panel that you would encounter all the way. I contacted their support who were very helpful, especially as they were able to talk to me using Skype IM.

They were clear that their product may not work in some corporate environment, where local policies may not allow internet connections. However, the 10 day money back policy was cited as a way for a no risk way to try.

Even if FlexiSPY were not the only show in town, I would have no trouble recommending this for consideration to anyone needing to spy on a Blackberry.
